Exclamation Mcaffee Virus Version 8 + Office Lan

One to watch for those running an Office Lan.

Our Desktop Guys installed the latest update for Mcaffee Virus Scan to Version 8 this week.

Then out of around 90 Computers running NT nearly 70% of them on rebooting had lost file associations with Excel.

Whenever clicking to open an Excel document or running Excel from the start menu programs list a new software would launch called Graphics Link which as far I know if a power point extension.

Hit and miss on the PCs affected some were some were not.

Even affected a Lap Top connected to the Lan running Windows 2k.

As yet the cause has yet to be found.

All be it lets just say our Desktop Guys are not too happy having to run around the building reinstalling MS Office to retsore this.

Re: Mcaffee Virus Version 8 + Office Lan

i just went through replacing norton internet security 2003 with 2005, it gave me a slight headache when it froze during install, then i remembered that norton likes to retain its folders, so i did a system restore on xp, norton was corrupted (ie 2003 should have been installed because system restore was used) but i removed it from add/remove and left the folders there after it completely removed itself automatically....

norton internet security 2005 decided it wanted to install....

so in short, i suggest fresh installs.

Cheers Kronas if i could run fast enough I would suggest that to our Desktop Support Guys but I value my life so I think not.

I will pass on your suggestion via email and they will hunt you down with avengence for having to reinstall and create a new build for over 90 pcs and bringing the office and the business to a grinding halt.
