Re: Blimey....

How much does the "broadcast" arm cover?

Sounds like mainly infrastructure to me, though I could be wrong

Just sos I know how shocked to be!

It's the only division that ever makes us any money.....and it's also the only division that sells a service no-one else in the country does....

It's too good to sell IMO.

Re: Blimey....

Eesh!

Still, it sounds like it will give a big capital to invest in the rest of the company - but is the service itself needed to keep the rest of the network going? if it is then i'd be very confused as to what's happening

No, not for the rest of the network. This should tell you a bit more about what ntl broadcast is all about.

As with any business, it has to be the good bits you sell or no one will buy them. Same happened in the company i work for, sold off all the good bits.

Re: Blimey....

It is a bit like selling the family silver. It's a good solid business and it does make money but not a vast amount.

They have been gearing up for this since before they went into Chapter 11 when they were desperate to raise some cash. They were only offered around 500m at the time, but they wouldn't sell it cheap.

All broadcast personell are on different contracts and T&Cs to the rest of the company, the broadcast arm although under the ntl banner is now a completely seperate entity financially and will soon be listed seperatley on the exchange. This will help the sale.

This may cause some problems in the future. The ntl Core Network runs through a lot of Broadcast sites and the Core Network is maintained by broadcast engineers. Hurdles that can be overcome with wayleaves and contracts.

It will be a shame when it goes as it gave ntl an edge over other communications companies.
