DNS Server problems?

I'm seeing timeouts daily on multiple systems on my network when trying to lookup domains.

Times out first attempt and usually works the second attempt. I've tried under Windows and Linux and even tried restarting my router.

Doing nslookup though command line gets me

Server: cache1.ntli.net
Address: 194.168.4.100
DNS Request timed out.

and even

DNS Request timed out.
Can't find server name for address 194.168.4.100
Can't find server name for address 194.168.8.100
Default servers are not available

Anyone else experiencing problems recently?
Been happening the last 24 hours and nothing on the Service Status page.

Re: DNS Server problems?

I have tried a fair few lookups on it for 5 mins and not got any timeouts, maybe it was just an intermittent thing ?

Re: DNS Server problems?

Yep had this one a while ago! when ever I tried to access a certain page got dns drop out with ntli server 1, the only thing I found got me out of it was to go a different route via a proxy server, and then I could access the page easily. Seems the same server is acting up for you too. depends on what route the page you are trying to access it seems. NTL have had this problem ongoing for a while, but I haven't had hassles for weeks now.*touches wood as she types* but if a server is dropping out, then this is going to happen more and more.

Re: DNS Server problems?

Just had it happen again.

I could ping the servers find and I could get a traceroute but no lookups were working.

Re: DNS Server problems?

Try swapping them around so that 194.168.4.100 is your primary dns server - or swap to a different set of dns servers for a while. NTL's are known to be a bit flakey at times - I don't use them.
