Very strange error

An error has recently developed on my pc running Win XP Home edition when shutting down it just hangs there with a pop up window sayng close program

"Layered Hidden Window"
with no indication what the actual program is

I have done all the usual ran spybot done full virus scan all the drivers are upto date windows update has been done and no more updates available so what i really need to know is the name of the actual proggie that is causing this i have checked event viewer for any clues but nothing there so is there any way i can create a log of the shutdown sequence to try and get some sort of indication to what is causing this.

This probably doesn't help in the slightest:

Re: Very strange error

It must be Java then.
Does it happen every time you close the PC?

Re: Very strange error

There is an interesting article on windows at http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...owfeatures.asp

I presume you are running windowsXP so have a look at http://www.wown.com/j_helmig/wxpevent.htm
for details on how to get a listing of the event log.

Re: Very strange error

Layering frames/panes/windows isn't Java-specific...

Update

It would appear that it was the catalyst drivers that was causing this i used the removal tool and reinstalled the drivers again and this seems to have cured the problem

Glad you got it sorted, Web Junkie, especially as it involved the notorious re-install of ATI drivers. I guess the removal tool makes it easier, my recollection is that re-installation was akin to a pagan ritual, where procedures handed down by the ancients had to be followed to the letter, after making the appropriate sacrifices, of course.
