Fashion icon or football thug?

David Beckham's latest tattoo is a winged cross on the back of his neck. Media reaction seems largely hostile:

What do you think of it?

yeh, i read that article earlier on and some of the comments on the BBC site, to be honest it is no ones business what anyone does to themselves, regardless of his celebrity status or anyones elses status it is up to the individual to do what they want to do.

its just the media stirring it, people will buy the papers.

It looks stupid - but each to their own - nothing to do with me.

I'm surprised by the level of agreement here! Although I think I agree with the consensus. Personally I think it looks very stupid, but then it's his bod.

I'm sure in the next few weeks, identical tattoos will spring up on the necks of young 'fashionable' males with large disposable incomes....

Re: Fashion icon or football thug?

I think the (current) last comment on that page is the best:

You ask if his tattoo matters - the real question is "Does David Beckham matter?"

And IMO the answer is a resounding "NO!"

who are you to say hes a plonker ? who am i to say your a t***** ?

from my own point of view he choose to do it because he wanted to do it, its neither yours or anyone elses business on what he does, doesent do, all the baggage that gets reported about him is none of YOURS or MINES business.

everyone is an individual in their choice, no one has the right to slag you down or off because at the end of it all he is a human being, ok hes a footballer playing for a huge club he has a high profile girlfreind so what ?

the media intrudes on them, then people buy the literature, then the media slags him and his wife down, why ?

because your all sucked in to the media mind games, one day he is a hero the next he is a villan.

what i am trying to say is stop being critical of people's choices.

Woah there kronas! Even his tatoo artist tried to talk him out of it as a bad idea.
I see a lot of tattoos in my line of work. Without exeption (so far, in 11 years of practice), all of my older patients with tattoos are unhappy that they had them done.
They see them as something stupid that they did when they were young.....and it costs about £50-£200 pounds to have a tattoo put on. It costs thousands to have them removed.

(I also said that he seems to be a nice guy btw)

if people are unhappy its their fault, i have rarely made a decision i have regretted yep we make mistakes.

why do you or i have the right to stick our noses in his business, would you like it if i told you to stop being a chiro, going on about ? others hear about it and constantly tell you to stop your proffession ?

think about it.

Whats up with you tonight m8? You are equating his ill advised decision to have a tattoo visible on his neck with my occupation decision?

Anyhow....I guarantee you that in later years he will regret this and probably many other tattoos. Just an observation that I have picked up from speaking to hundreds of tattood 50+year olds
