What DVD surrond sound ???

Hi all

I am after a decent DVD which will play all manner of DVD/Cd -R/RW + +R/RW and MP3. Sound is important I do not want tinny speakers that rattle away.

So any ideas people would be gratefully received

Many thanks

Mike

Re: What DVD surrond sound ???

So you want a DVD player/5.1 speakers combo?

Re: What DVD surrond sound ???

How about this one from www.scan.co.uk for less than £100.

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...roductID=79934

†¢ Full DVD/MPEG-4/DivX®/XviD/CD/MP3/Ogg Vorbis/CD-RW/DVD+-RW compatibility
†¢ JPEG Picture CD viewing
†¢ Progressive Scan Video Out
†¢ Time Search
†¢ Playback Control: Play/Pause/Stop/FF/RW/NEXT/PREV
†¢ Repeat Playback
†¢ Slow Motion
†¢ Title/chapter select
†¢ Parental lock, Multi Language, Multi Subtitle, Multi Angle
†¢ Remote Control
†¢ TV Type (PAL and NTSC)
†¢ Configuration Setup Menu
†¢ Aspect Ratio (4:3 Pan and Scan, 4:3 Letter Box and 16:9 Wide)
†¢ S-Video Output
†¢ Composite Video Output
†¢ Component Output
†¢ RGB via SCART Output
†¢ Dolby Digital, MPEG Audio Decoding
†¢ Dolby Digital/MPEG 5.1 Digital Output
†¢ S/PDIF Outputs
†¢ Analogue stereo

How to enable Multiregion on the Kiss DP-1000 DVD Player:

" Open the Player's Tray
" Using the Remote Control - Key in the following:
" Eject, Clear, 2, 7, 6, Enter
" The tray will now close, and the player will be region free.

Size: A4
Multi-Region: Yes
DivX 4 & 5: Yes
Audio - DTS/Dolby: Dolby Digital, MPEG Audio Decoding, Dolby Digital/MPEG 5.1 Digital Output
Dolby Decoder: Yes -
Scart Output: Yes -
SVideo Output: Yes
PC Connectable: No -
Progressive Scan (NTSC): Yes -

You still need speakers, but thats one hell of a price. Note the Div-X bit.

Heh, I'm currently selling a Logitech Digitheatre home cinema system (speakers + decoder + sub), dirt cheap! (have to sell it to pay for new decks)

Re: What DVD surrond sound ???

how much do you have to spend?
a good dvd player with an external dd/dts amp and speakers is the best option.

Re: What DVD surrond sound ???

Agreed. Even if you buy a cheapo DVD player for 50 quid, as long as it's got digital out, then hooking it up to a DTS/Dolby Digital surround amp will still sound pretty good.

You can pick up quite a reasonable DD amp now for £150, then the speakers of course!

My set up is as follows:

Sony DTS 5.1 Reciever
Sony DVD Recorder
B&W 601's on the front
B&W Centre speaker
B&W mini rears
AIWA Active sub

I've kinda built it up over time, but this set up sounds sweeter than most cinemas I've been to.

If you're going down this route, you need to be careful to match the kit correctly. I started with a fnatastic pair of Sony floorstander speakers, then wanted to buy the surround amp. Went for a Yamaha which at the time had five stars in What HiFi. It sounded absolutely terrible.

Took the amp back, got the B&W 601's instead, then the Sony amp - perfect match.

Be sure whoever you're buying from offers you the chance to listen to the kit at home, as well as instore - and will do exchanges if you're not happy with it.
