Blue M.O.T stickers

Does anybody know if it`s a legal requirement to display the new blue mot stickers that you get when your car has passed its mot?
The reason I ask, is that I`ve got no problem displaying it except that the sticky side is on the back, so if I stick it to the window, it will be facing inwards.

Re: Blue M.O.T stickers

afaik it is NOT a legal requirement to display it.

DRIVERS TO BE GIVEN GENTLE MOT REMINDERS
Drivers will be given a gentle reminder to make sure their vehicles are MOT tested on time under an initiative announced by Transport Minister John Spellar.

Quote:
MOT testers will issue stickers to drivers to remind them when their next test is due. The stickers are designed to be placed inside the windscreen.

John Spellar said:
†œReminder stickers are a simple but effective way of reminding drivers when to take their vehicles for an MOT. The test is a vital way of ensuring vehicles meet the basic safety and environmental protection standards required by law.â₠¬Ã‚

†œMany of us lead increasingly busy lives and as a consequence some drivers may simply forget to take their car for an MOT. The reminder sticker will help ensure this does not happen.ââ‚à ‚¬Ã‚

The stickers are not compulsory, but their use is supported by the Motoristsâ₠¬â„¢ Forum, trade groups and the Association of Chief Police Officers.

Re: Blue M.O.T stickers

Thanks for that. I`ve just found this on Dept of Transport website. It looks like in the near future it probably will be a legal requirement, when they get their database updated.

MOT WINDSCREEN REMINDER
For some time now we have been looking at introducing MOT reminders which motorists can place
in the windscreens of their vehicles. By ensuring that as few people as possible forget their MOT
expiry date, VI hopes to encourage more motorists to get their vehicles tested on time thereby
improving road safety and environmental protection.
We intended to introduce reminders at the same time that the MOT Computerisation service
commenced. Due to the delay in MOT Computerisation we have decided to introduce windscreen
reminders as soon as possible.
The windscreen reminders will come in pads and will be issued to you automatically when you
order your pads of certificates. You will also be able to order packs as individual items.
VTS Involvement
When the vehicle is presented for MOT test, the VTS should inform the presenter that if the vehicle
passes the MOT Test the vehicle will have a windscreen reminder completed as part of the normal
documentation.
If consent is given by the vehicle presenter, the tester should fix the windscreen reminder in a
appropriate place.
If permission is not obtained then pass the reminder to the vehicle presenter with the other
completed documents.
Tester
If the vehicle successfully passes the MOT test, the tester must complete the windscreen reminder
and fix it to the inside of the windscreen. The reminder should not be fixed to paint work.
The windscreen reminder will be hand written with the same wording as the expiry date for the test
certificate (VT20), as set out in the MOT Guide Appendix 7.

Re: Blue M.O.T stickers

Everybody say "Awwww...."

I wouldnt worry about it... I have my MOT organised so that it runs out a few days after the tax does, so I have an automatic reminder for it.

Re: Blue M.O.T stickers

My local garage always reminds me of my MOT by letter every year. Handy for me and good repeat business for them.

Re: Blue M.O.T stickers

Perhaps they are just part of a scheme run by the garages & gov to remind you.
Perhaps if you did not get them then the garage had run out of them.

Actually I change my car every three years so don't have to bother with MOT's.

Sneaks off to find "smug git " smiley.

Re: Blue M.O.T stickers

Not sure but I think you probably have to request them they probably do not get a lot of drivers who are aware of them - if they asked each driver if they wanted an MOT sticker - I think it would be a slight increase in their work load explaining to each driver just exactly what they are talking about so they have probably took the decision to only give drivers who request them - I know I requested mine last year.
