Question STB boxes, differences and Langley Update

Ok here's the story. I have two boxes. A 4010N downstairs and a 4001NC upstairs and i'm on the Langley platform in Northampton.

The 4010, you enter guide, all channels and the program listings are there within seconds. Even three days ahead the program listings come up right away.

However, hit interactive and you will be getting up to reboot the box because it hangs at the point where the picture shrinks before entering interactive.

Now upstairs on the 40001NC, interactive works fine but the guide takes a while to bring up todays listings and a little while longer approx 5mins (not really timed it to be honest ) to display two and three days in advance.

Now before i've not reallly worried, since downstairs hardly uses interactive but uses the guide and upstairs I have a tivo and use the interactive service.

But with the new Langley software due in a week !!!! I would like to know is it the fault of the software within the two box versions or an issue with the signal that needs to be sorted. There are no altantors (?) on either box and no problems reported on picture or sound.

Upstairs has a phoneline and broadband, whilst downstairs is just the stb.

Thank you all for any help that may be forthcoming

Jonathan

Re: STB boxes, differences and Langley Update

I've got a 4001 which has the same problem - 'Interactive' works fine and is pretty quick, but the EPG is rubbish. Sometimes it'll work OK (ish!) and other times it stays on Gathering Data. I've left it for about 10 minutes before and there's been no change.

I haven't got any attenuators on the cable either. One wasn't installed when I first got hooked up to cable (3+ yrs ago) and since then a 2W splitter has been installed for my Cable Modem and the box continues to work fine.

We're due to get the upgrade this week (starting tonight) but I don't know which versions of the box are going to be first. Fingers crossed everything will work as before when the update happens!

Hi Jonathan, in answer to your question I would expect both setops to work much better with the new software, I don't think you have a signal problem otherwise you would have problems with ordering PPV or probs with b/band. See what you think when the new software comes from what i've experienced of it, it is much improved.

To answer Mr Burns I believe the new software will download to all types of boxes and not one specific model first, just make sure your boxes are on standby at night otherwise you won't get the update till a week or two later when all boxes are hit whether on standby or not.
