Re: video on demand

Its in the pipeline. Some media company who run FrontRow have signed a contract with ntl to pay for lots of upgrades so VOD can be done with a cut of the profits going to this company. They are hoping for a late 2004 roll out allegedly. Though I'll be surprised if it comes that early.

Re: video on demand

This is my first post too!

Yes, ntl is supposed to be investigating some sort of VOD via a third party. VOD is the one thing that satellite can't do and should have been part of digital cable when it was launched.

Also, I might be wrong but doesn't ntl co-own Front Row with Telewest, each owning 50% of FR?

Welcome and yes, FrontRow is indeed an ntl and Telewest co-owned venture.

Re: video on demand

Thank you for the welcome!

It has always surprised me why ntl didn't bring in a third party operator to do VOD ages ago. Home Choice has been running one for years in about five streets in London.

ntl were going to do it themselves. Approx 3 years ago I had to go into London village and queue for a passport so I could go to visit a company in the USA to get to know their kit. Then two days before I was due to fly the whole project was pulled. Some one sat down and worked out that the returns required from each customer made the whole project unfeasible at that time.
Kit has now moved on and costs have come down.

Re: video on demand

Interesting stuff.

I believe KIT has tried to do VOD and they got miniscule customers signing up for it. That said, it is still the one thing that Sky can't do without a third party as far as TV is cocnerned so I do think that ntl should pursue it.

Thanks.

Re: [Merged] VOD/PVR via ntl

Why have you posted the same post on here twice and even the exact same post on Digital Spy?
