Box locked up!

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forums, so please be gentle with me. Hope this is a simple question to answer for you. I have NTL installed, I'm in Manchester and I just have the base packet which came free for 12 months with my phone line. A friend of mine had his installed a couple of weeks after me and he is about 5 minutes away from me. His box appears to have locked up and is displaying 8888. He has just phoned me to see if mine was okay. Can you give me answers to the following questions;
1) What does the error message mean?
2) Is there some sort of master reset that will clear it?

He says he has unplugged it and plugged it back in but still gets the same error. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Box locked up!

try leaving the stb off for a longer period of time, sometimes mine locks up 'we are updating your service... etc etc etc'. If i turn it off for a couple of minutes, it will still be the same when i turn back on, but if i power down for a couple of hours it will normally return to normal.

calling c/s is a good idea though... 0800 052 2000... they should be open til 6pm tonight (or it might be 5pm... can't remember!)

Re: Box locked up!

Welcome to the site atko,

In addition to monkeybreath's suggestion, ensure that all the cables are attatched securely at the back and the smart card is inserted properly in the slot. Faults (0800 052 2000) are open till 6pm on a Saturday and are not open Sundays, not sure about Monday with it being a bank holiday, if someone from ntl can confirm if they are open.
