Expand wireless signal from hotspot

Which type of device do I need to connect to my hotspot that then amplifies around my home?

Any recommendations please

Re: Expand wireless signal from hotspot

what hotspot are you using? I have a 4G router but I want to change it to a 5G. If it is just a mobile device I have no idea but a sim router just works like a normal router

Re: Expand wireless signal from hotspot

Hotspot from my pixel. Connectivity must be 5g. Then router a mix of 2.4 and 5 GHz.

No to SIM routers although a data SIM off Amazon and a SIM router is very tempting if it wasn't so damn expensive.

Three offered me promotion pricing on their broadband but no, not paying £20+ per month extra. They already get £17 out of me for unlimited everything which is my hotspot.

When I went into a three store they told me the three routers knocking about on eBay are unlocked ready for any SIM

Re: Expand wireless signal from hotspot

They are my daughter has one as does a friend down the road. They both get good speed and switched from other broadband. I actually get the best speed here from EE (Lyca) and get 100 meg mobile so may well switch one day too but currently on the BT Essentials package as I am on UC currently

As for expanding your hotspot I have no idea but not researched it

you can in theory use a repeater/extender. I wonder if you could connect to a repeater that has a nic then connect that to a mesh system. Might be over complicated and not work anyway of course

Re: Expand wireless signal from hotspot

I was just about to post regarding a repeater. I wouldn't mind an Asus router that has wireless repeater but which model.

Problem is connecting repeater to the hotspot. If I need to access the repeaters UI again I cannot retrieve the IP from my pixel because it doesn't show those details. 198.168.0.1 goes dead in repeater mode no?

Re: Expand wireless signal from hotspot

It is not anything I have ever had to do . It does seem like it would be an interesting project though might pick up a repeater and have a play

Re: Expand wireless signal from hotspot

Is there an app that shows all active IP connections including those through hotspot?

Re: Expand wireless signal from hotspot

I wonder if this would work. Providing I’ve understood

USB to Ethernet adapter
Share the connection
Buy a cheap mesh system something like a TP-Link Deco S4(3-pack) AC1200Mbps
Use one of them as the router and connect to the pixel the others place as required

Re: Expand wireless signal from hotspot

I don't understand step 1, where are the connections made?

Just to add. My pixel is left on charge while tethering. Battery set to 80% charge and adaptive charging. So the c port is occupied

Re: Expand wireless signal from hotspot

If you hadn’t had the pixel connected to power you could have gone usb from the pixel to the wan port of one of the mesh units

I’m Wondering if something like this might work

Re: Expand wireless signal from hotspot

Oh ok. Well I have one of those for my fire TV setup which uses micro usb. I don't see why it shouldn't work. Nice one I'll look for one in the bargain bin only drawback would be it not being gigabit

Re: Expand wireless signal from hotspot

You could buy(or perhaps you have an old one lying around unused) and set up a router in mesh mode(access point), so it will act as a WiFi relay between the hotspot(pixel with mobile connection?) and any device. The device will communicate with the relay and the relay will then communicate with the hotspot. As long as the router has the speed and level of WiFi you need(eg 2.4GHz or 5GHz), it should be ok. Guides to set it up are out there.
