Fibre overbuild: Who gets service

Does anyone close to VM know the answer?

For example, in my area, VM have completed their fibre overbuild, with cabinets placed close to the HFC cabinets.

Is this a sign that HFC customers will be offered full fibre? And is it likely to be CGS-PON (with symmetrical speeds)?

This is the only news I have seen on the subject. VM have neither confirmed nor denied whether it's content is correct.

Re: Fibre overbuild: Who gets service

Thanks, Noddie. It's bad that VM are so opaque about full-fibre and XGS-PON. To me it doesn't make sense not to upgrade/sidegrade HFC customers when the bulk off homes in our immediate area use VM's HFC product. New customers may well be sparse now that CityFibre have completed their build and they could steal the BT/EE/SKY customers, particularly SKY.

Re: Fibre overbuild: Who gets service

As I understand it, current HFC customers will not be approached to transfer over to full fibre.

Initially, it was going to be a selling point for the new NetCo to attract partners to wholesale the full fibre network to new customers and VMO2 would keep the HFC customer base.

But now that the NetCo has effectively been canned by Telefonica……who knows!
