VM to launch huge network expansion

Quote:
Liberty Global has appointed investment bank LionTree to establish a joint venture business to build full-fibre networks to millions of British homes outside its existing network, according to multiple people with direct knowledge of the plan. The new company would compete with BT’s Openreach and new alternative networks...
The new network would be built using Openreach’s ducts and poles and increase competition in the telecoms sector...
The new project is separate to Project Lightning and could expand the Virgin Media footprint by an additional 2m homes or more in lower-population areas over time.

Seems interesting. Fibre is the way to go if you can't get 5G.

Re: VM to launch huge network expansion

Possibly a reaction to BT's new approach and utilising its funds from selling many of its central European businesses.

Re: VM to launch huge network expansion

Just read it on the FT.

It’s news to me. We’ve been looking at the OpenReach PIA product, and used it sparingly here and there.

BT PIA is not without risks.

I think it makes sense in certain conditions, but it has to be done correctly.

We’ll see how it develops.

Virgin could be on the way then for areas not possible under Project Lightning! Will this include TV as well?
