Re: What have you fixed lately?

Toilet Roll holder onto plasterboard wall, previous plasterboard fixings kept failing so I bought some Gripit fixings and they're fantastic and work easily as long as there is space behind for the wings to open up.

I got a cassette the other day and its a pretty good album from Gallery....

The earliest cassette I have seen with Dolby (It says 'DOLBY B' on it) - 1972

It was on one of those early 70s cartridges by Ampex!

Now Ampex used to put out excellent quality 8 tracks,casettes,etc..

They had paper labels on the cassettes and they were goregously made and ran well....... In the early 70s they started printing it right on the cartridge itself.......

This one didnt play well,it was aweful..... I opened it and found out why!!

NO BLASTED ROLLERS IN THE SHELL!!!!!!!!!

What kind of a moron would put a cassette together W/O ROLLERS and expect it to run well??

It has a nice pad in it but it didnt play worth shit!

I like the band and songs and luckily I had another cartridge that DOES HAVE ROLLERS and I put it in that one.......

I will say: This was the EASIEST AMPEX TAPE I HAVE HAD TO OPEN! (Usually Ampex tapes are put together so well you cant take them apart w/o ruining them.. (Expecially Ampex 8 tracks!!!!))

2 songs I knew instantly: I believe in Music and nice to be with you.......

Re: What have you fixed lately?

I've fixed a PS5 Dualsense controllers left stick drift by replacing the potentiometer with one that that is meant to be drift proof(Aknes TMR). I had to buy a new soldering iron from AliExpress and a PCB vice from Amazon, could have done with a new set of eyes too!

I was unsuccessful with my attempt last weekend and spent hours trying to remove the lead free solder which has a much higher melting point so had to give up, so I purchased 5 metres of KESTER LEADED SOLDER Sn63Pb37 for £5 which has a very low temperature melting point and with this I was able to remove the old solder from the PCB holes which are very small and install the new potentiometer.

These controllers cost £60-£70 each and I have 3 to fix so financially this is a success.

Fixed my other 2 Dualsense controllers, alot quicker now removing lead free solder using leaded solder, but it still takes a fair bit of time, I could never do this as a side hustle.

Everything is now packed away, probably won't need to use a soldering iron again in like forever!

Re: What have you fixed lately?

Nothing really difficult but replaced my wiper blades on my Audi A3, it was just a little awkward removing the rear wiper as there were no instructions and so many different model variations so wasn't sure if just pulling it off firmly I wouldn't break the wiper or the rear screen.

Re: What have you fixed lately?

Replaced my centre speaker grill cloth that had a hole in it (no idea how or why it happened).

£12 for the cloth- Now got enough to cover every speaker I have. And now as good as new. Very happy now.

I last fixed one of my VHS tapes 10 mins ago or so...

WHERE THE BUFFALO ROAM - 1980

I have an early release (1983) which I didnt wanna lose becasuse they ruined this movie later on..Changing the music in it,etc........ Totally stupid!!

The tape came off at the end of the movie thankfully not at the start!!

I just put a piece of tape to hold the tape to the spool and wound a little bit of it up,then put it back in the cartridge and put it back together.....

Im trying to find an earlier copy of this movie....... It came out in 1980 so I would think THERE IS AN MCA VIDEOCASSSETTE release which would be even better than this MCA home video release...... ('MCA VIDEOCASSETTE' changed to 'MCA HOME VIDEO' in 1983)

This one has dolby on it... An MCA VIDEOCASSETTE release would not...... (And might sound even better)
