Re: Weather

I wonder how all those with air sourced heat pumps are doing?

Must take a lot of energy to turn -3 into the 18C needed for a comfortable home environment

Even in cold weather, they are around four times more efficient than a new “A" rated boiler…

Apparently modern ones can do reasonably well way down to -10C or more.

They have to turn that -3C into a lot more than 18C to run radiators.

Yes, that's what I was getting at.
Apparently 'optimum' room temp should be 18C . . . but whatever (water? oil? ) is running around in those pipes & radiators needs to be quite a bit hotter.

Probably fine if it's on constantly, as it would take a week to warm up from scratch

Do installers still recommend an emersion heater along with the heat pump?

pump?
Whoever said that can take a running jump, way too cool, 22C is more optimum in our house.

You generally need a water tank, I dont think it needs to be an actual emersion heater, but it might be a good backup.

I have a gas system boiler that heats the water in my tank, but its also an emersion heater, just normally switched off.

Re: Weather

It rained last night here and now it's frozen over. The paths and roads are so slippery I had to take baby steps to and from the local Tesco express. I held my balance more than a few times. So so slippery

Re: Weather

Opened the bedroom curtains this morning (9 am) to see a ladybird staring at me from outside . . . not quite sure if that's normal for the first week of January?

It is for me, sod all reasons to get up early

Pension paid direct into bank so no post office queue to join
Library closed, digital books are easier
High Street empty of shops . . unless you want a haircut, nails painted, or a tan
Not the time of year for gardening
Pubs (the ones still left) aren't open yet

Progress . . turning me into a lazy bugger
