Your drive is just as likely to suffer hardware failure, you should have backups of it anyway.

My work laptop(s) have used bitlocker for the last 7 years, Ive yet to encounter a single issue.
In fact I wouldnt know it was in use were not for the fact I have to enter the password on startup.
