Not sure a boss should really be doling out hugs, especially to someone who seems to have made his feelings known and they're clearly not reciprocated.
If it was the other way around I don't think Mark would be getting too much sympathy, in fact he might be the subject of a complaint.
Mark, as sad as it is, you do need to put it behind you but I know that's far easier to say than do.
