It does feel like a way to accommodate 'popular' films without having them in the main categories. The problem is if the award is just automatically given to the film with the highest profit for the year then what's the point? Or if they take a selection of the big films and give an award to the best one then why bother at all? What's the cut-off point for including them there or in the Best Picture category?
