It will also most likely be within the terms and conditions of your contract that they can terminate service with you at any time, without notification probably for no reason.

That then leaves them the cushion that if they do accidently knock of your service, they can spend as long as they like putting it back on, as contractually, they have terminated your last contract and so are not under any contract with you to reproivde service in a set number of days.

The best thing you can do is to breathe down there necks and upset the people on the other end of the phone constantly asking for escalations to managers until someone gets someone out the next day. I have a lot of experience with call centre work, and the best way to get results is just to upset people until they get sick of hearing your voice. Also, attempt to apply for compensation due to the 'hardship' this has caused you, maybe a months free line rental or more etc etc.
Sorry that has to be wrong, or at least incomplete. Such a blanket clause to terminate without notice would I'm sure fall foul of consumer laws especially unfair contract terms.

Yes no telco will guarantee a fault free service, whcih covers tha accidental cut off bit (but then they are under a duty to remedy that promptly, or render tehmselves in breach of the contract to supply the service). Telcos will have provisions where they can temporarily suspend service where they have cause to suspect fraud, abuse, or there has been no payment. Dependent on circumstances such suspension, which could become a termination of service may need prior notice to the customer.

In ntl's case the circumstances where services can be suspended or terminated are spelt out in the T&Cs available here : http://www.ntlhome.com/legals/residentialterms.html
