Someone I know said that Sky had put something on their website to say that the Coronavirus was causing them problems.

Probably, but they can't stop people cancelling if they are out of contract.
Even those that are could argue that the service they signed up to has materially changed to such an extent that this amounts to a breach of contract.
When the UKTV channels dissappeared from Virgin Media, they tried to use their get out clause of 'All channels are subject to change', but some were successfully able to leave using this method.
