If it was me I would continue cuz I enjoy playing with this sort of thing, if however you are not enjoying the experiment then stop now. The good side of all this is you keep backups as you said you use acronis so you are not losing anything but a bit of time
Success. Disconnecting from the internet did the trick.

Full install followed by successful updates.
