I have a 2nd hand, very lightly used ASUS RT-AC86U Wi-Fi AC2900 (AI Mesh USB 3.0 Router) going spare.

The OP should PM me if they want to solve some of their issues by going down the modem mode only route. With it's excellent WAN to LAN throughput this router will future proof you for any VM upgrades currently available.
