Why would they? The U.K. audience for any of those featured will eclipse figures for anything on Netflix, Amazon or Sky Atlantic, and especially so amongst the Grauniad’s target demographic.
Also, despite the fact that such things are clearly not to your taste, any period drama made for BBC1 or ITV is not going to be cheap, and if it’s adapted by Andrew Davies or an original screenplay by the likes of Phoebe Waller-Bridge it isn’t going to be naff, either.
