Because for EU countries, we don't need to, and non-EU countries I've paid between £2 and £5 per day for unlimited data and normal text/call allowance (I've done this in Dubai, USA, Australia, recently).

Not having to worry about data usage (for maps, tourist information, bookings, check ins, etc.) makes it more than worth it for me.
