Buffering from NAS

Tried to watch something last night and it buffered. Turns out someone in the house was torrenting.

I have a NAS connected to the router and i'm streaming over wifi. I thought a NAS wouldn't be affected by what someone else was doing with the connection?

Unless there's something obvious I've missed. like would it need an Ethernet connection to the viewing box from the router to avoid this?

Any insights please?
