If it's selfish to choose not to read/watch/listen to advertisements then I'm selfish.
I'm afraid that I don't agree with your view that advertising on the internet is a price worth paying for diversity. I wonder how much of this PR fiasco is due to the lack of understanding by an American businessman (Kent Ertugrul) of the differences between the American public's attitude to advertising and that of the UK public, where we have cherished, non-commercial institutions like the BBC? And before you start the "ah..but the BBC is licence-funded" argument:
