Thinking about it, it's a good job that this law is widely ignored. If the late Bob Monkhouse hadn't of kept the many recordings that he made, hours and hours of content would have been lost forever. Some has even been used by the BBC to broadcast archive programming that they no longer held themselves.

The same goes for employees that 'stole' material destined for the bin.

The 'Missing believed wiped' archive is all the richer for it.
