I wonder at what point “influence” becomes “plagiarism”. John Christopher was sailing a tad close to the wind at times, I think.
The BBC adaptation was good on its own terms but having departed so much from the novels it made it very hard to pick up the story in The Pool of Fire from the unresolved cliffhanger at the end of the TV version of The City of Gold and Lead (for anyone who had to do it that way ... I didn’t

I’ve never quite understood the reason for most of the changes to the basic story for TV, although I suspect it was the budget. The Masters feature much more heavily in the novel and the characters spend a lot more time in the alien environment.
