The original trial firmware (9.1.116BA3) from October 2017 was just a ICMP "fix" which hid the problem, but the newest versions (.603/.608) appear to do much more.
All the tests and research on the VM forum since .603 first appeared in April shows a real improvement. Long discusion from this page onwards:
