Totally agree with you. Its not a tacky looking plastic and due to the shine it can look like aluminium from the back. All that is beside the point though as I didn't get the phone to pose with, I got it to use it and due to the hardware specs.

After using the S3 I held an iPhone which felt as heavy as a brick in comparison.

It was obvious to most that it was too early to bring out the S4 and it brings nothing new to the table, which could be said about most other new phones too tbh. They got popular with the S2 and S3 because they were bringing new features galore along quickly, compare to Apple that has been drip feeding new features slowly over the years. Maybe that is part of why they released the S4 so soon but they don't quite have the same fanboy base as apple, where they will buy every new product to show off to their friends.
