Actually it surprising what you can get with an indoor aerial. I'm not in a particularly strong signal area, but if you get a cheap aerial, position right near a window it will pick a lot of freeview up. Fortunately still also have the main aerial on the house, bleeding gigantic thing it is too, the birds love it !
