You could always do search(eg Google) for something like, "windows change drive icon" and see what results appear.
This seems to be an important step. Changing the autorun.inf and "ejecting" and reconnecting worked for me just now using a Seagate external HDD.

Restart the computer to apply. If this is for a removable drive, then you could just disconnect and reconnect the drive to apply instead.
