I love the sport but there's been plenty of occasions of people dragging their careers out too long and paying a significant price for it. None more famous than Ali himself who should never have been allowed to step foot in the ring during his final fights.

That being said, household name boxers and a handful of unknowns rarely 'retire' as such from boxing. They retire from competitive boxing. They very much stay part of the sport in a working environment. Carl Froch is a commentator for Sky. Ricky Hatton is a trainer, Floyd Mayweather is attempting to become a Golden Boy promotions level stable. In the case of David Haye, he runs Ringstar - Hayemaker promotions as per the first post but is also naturally active in the training of his own fighters. He'll also have opportunities to be part of training camps for current fighters. There's a fair chance he'd be part of a training camp for Anthony Joshua should the Wilder fight go ahead.
