A burglar who stole more than £4,000 of electrical goods was caught after running into a lamppost and knocking himself out as he fled.

Terry Sawyers, 39, was found unconscious in Fenchurch Street after grabbing four laptops, seven Cannon cameras, and a mobile phone from two offices in London.

Concerned passers-by called the police who rushed to the scene to find Sawyers lying on the pavement next to his haul on March 17.

Sawyers, who has 79 previous convictions, 27 of which are for burglary, swore at officers and called them "pigs" as they drove him to hospital.

Earlier he had broken into the offices of Japanese bank Shinkin International in Moorgate, and stolen lunch vouchers worth £1,000.

He then broke into the offices of Bravo Solutions, also in Moorgate, where he took four laptops and two laptop bags.

Several hours earlier he had stolen a mobile phone from the manager's office of Poundland in Stratford.
