Talking Broadband Registration

Hi, I'm new to the forum so go easy on me.

I'm looking for advice regarding the registration procedure with NTL Broadband. My brother in law took out the 150K service and had his Modem installed 3 weeks ago.

3 Weeks later of speaking to NTL Tech support he has been informed that :-
1 - His operating system is faulty and needs to be stripped out and reloaded
2 - The version of Internet Explorer he uses is not supported (IE6)
and finally
3 - His computer is at fault.

Ignoring the fact that the documentation NTL have sent him includes an eight digit pin number and the system looks for a seven digit one and the PC and software has passed all the set up tests the above seems to be where NTL draw the line with helping the customer. The process seems to run ok (obtains IP address etc) until the final part where he gets to the NTL Screen informing you that you will be redirected for the final part of the process. The redirection takes place but then comes up "unable to display page"

Is there an easy fix for this? NTL seem to suffer from "Otherenditis" as as far as I can see the settings on his pc and browser seem ok, The NIC is working correctly and he has the correct lights on the modem.

Thanks
