Thanks for the replies. I have to go around his house later to finish setting up the computer for him. I had an idea that might get him online this evening. If anyone can see any pitfalls in this, please post them.
Firstly, add all the software he wants and get the computer just about right. Create a restore point and then use the AOL disc. Go to NTL website
http://www.ntlhome.com/ntl_internet/...worldportalnav
and order on line either a dial-up without the NTL disc or order the 150k that he wanted originally. I am assuming that in ordering the dial-up without a disc, NTL would have an automated process of sending the password and dial in number to an email address. Also that we would need to enter telephone, house, account numbers etc. If I remember correctly, isn't the dial up account seperate from all the others he may have? By which, it is paid for on direct debit as opposed to being lumped in with tele and phone.
If this works, then try to remove AOL using the restore point if necessary, then get on-line with NTL dial-up.
ADSL would be a last resort as far as he is concerned. He just wanted someone to take his request of 150k, process it and have an installer come around and connect it. Simple really isn't it?
Grum, thanks for the offer. It will be taken up if we get stuck.
Cheers
