ntl Telewest beats Sky to wins rights to near live clips to Premier League matches

ntl Telewest today confirmed that it will acquire the exclusive right to offer †˜near liveâ₠¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢ ( Was on Sky Sports 1 every Weekend ) clips of all Premier League football matches for the 2007/8-2009/10 seasons over the internet. Uniquely, these clips will be available to ntl Telewest customers on-demand for up to a week after transmission of a football match †“ the ultimate catch-up package.

Consumers will be able to re-live the best of the action from all the weekââ‚ ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s Premier League matches on their PC, laptop or internet-enabled device. Packaged in a range of exciting formats that add real value to the consumer, the rights will be creatively bundled with the companyââ‚à ‚¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s broadband and mobile services.

Together with a range of other premium content, the rights will form part of a truly differentiated content proposition that enhances the consumerââ‚à ƒ‚¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s experience, reinforces the appeal of the companyââ‚à ‚¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s services and - following the recent acquisition of Virgin Mobile - fully exploits its †˜quad-playââ‚ ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢ capability.

Commenting on the acquisition, Malcolm Wall, CEO of ntl Telewestââ‚à ƒ‚¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s Content division said: †œAcquiring these rights is good news for the company and its consumers. As the UKâ₠¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢s largest broadband provider and the UKâ₠¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢s only †˜quad playââ‚ ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢ operator, they are a perfect fit with our business. For football fans they will form the basis of the ultimate catch-up service and help underpin a genuinely value-added service.ââ‚à ƒ‚¬Ã‚
