you uninstalled it i take it?, what codec are you now using out of interest.
this tools good for telling you what codec a video file might be using and also will tell you about all the codecs currently install on your machine that can display that file type
http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Editing/gspot221.exe
good for knowing if you need to find a missing codec and its name for instance.
you can also rearange the codec prioritys with some tools to but that gets more involved.
take some time to read some of these doom9 threads
http://www.google.com/search?q=codec...=www.doom9.org
get a better understanding of it all.
my advice if your going to get into archiving your DVD content etc, is to look to useing AVC/H.264 Encoding x264 is a good open encoder for that, read the doom9 threads about AVC/H.264 lossless , etc and forget using the old divx/xvid forms of mpeg4-part2 ASP for the future, as AVC/H.264/mpeg4-part10 is going to be the standard thing.
mpeg2 is still good for use as your average DVD player will be around a while longer yet, but eventully AVC will be everywere there too, HD-DVD/BR players can use it as standard alongside MS owned VC-1 codec for instance, so better to start getting used to that AVC format now.
it gets quite involved but doom9 should make it clearer, keep in mind many there are in the US and talk their 24fps and several other oddball framerates LOL, just remember the UK just needs 25fps or 50fps for non Interlaced/Progressive and you will be fine
