Wierd problem

I have a problem with my Internet connection. I managed to track the problem down to the cable splitter but have not been able to sort the problem out. I started losing my Internet connection about a month ago after Telewest upgraded the local network. Replacing a three way splitter back to the original two way splitter seemed to solve the problem until a few days ago. I again started losing the connection. I replaced with a new 2-way splitter but still no connection. I then removed the splitter and connected directly with a F plug coupler. Got my connection back? I can connect directly with the F plug coupler but not through a splitter? (tried 3) I can still recieve TV through the splitter just not the Internet. Even with the TV connector unplugged. Obviously I would like to solve the problem so I don't need to keep changing connection back and forth to watch TV or use the net. Any advice would be much appreciated.
