Sorry if it seems I'm hijacking this thread, but it's along the lines of firmwares from the original poster.

And I think if you look at the bottom of your router, it should tell you either a serial number which you can lookup to get the router version or the actual version it's self.

Or, give this a try http://192.168.1.1/SysInfo.htm you may need to change the ip address to that of your router.

And good old wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WRT54G
I have flashed mine when I first got it, its much better than LInksys firmware.
