As the original pass was a square ball it looked to me as if the linesman thought a Swiss player passed to Frei rather than it coming off a Korean.
Anyway, Frei was onside when the original ball was played. Good decision by the ref.

FIFA's new idea is that a player should only be flagged offside when he receives the ball.
As the expression goes, play to the whistle.
