Wired Router and 2 PC's

Hi there,
I have recently took up ntl broadband. I have a NetGear wired router GS605UK. I connect 2 laptops to the router and the router with the Cable Modem. One computer is getting a direct IP to the ntl network and has normal Internet access, while the other one gets some wired auto-configuration IP and does not have any Internet access. I contacted ntl, they said that i have to use NetGear's software to specify the Primary and Secondary DNS. First of all the router i have does not come with any software, and the netgear website does not have any software either. So, i entered the Primary and Sec DNS IP's that ntl gave me to the Local Area Connection Properties, under TCP/IP protocol - properties - advanced - DNS. It still does the same thing. The machine that enters first to the router, gets a direct IP and then the other machine gets that wierd IP (169.254.190..)

Sorry Guys, i do not understand what's going on. Before ntl we had Bulldog and i didnt have any problems like that, a least on connecting more than one PC. We had other problems with the connectivity but that's another issue.

Anybody has an idea?
Any help would be appreciated,
thanks
John
