it'll be a bit stupid on MSs part to not make the XBox2 compatible with XBox games, but then again, just because its a different processor doesnt mean it cant play the games ( Emulator anyone? ) I would imagine that the speed of processors available for an XBox2 could emulate several XBox CPUs and have clock cycles to spare....
erm. why is it stupid? just cause the PS2 can use PS1 games? its the only console thats backwards compatible with its predecessor. GC can play N64 games, which can't play SNES games which can't play NES games. DC couldn't play Saturn games, which couldn't play Mega-Drive games, which couldn't play Master System games.

The PS2 could do it, because by the time it was released, the PS had been out so long that its main CPU was cheap enough to be used as part of the controller port functionality on the PS2. Therefore the PS2 was able to play PS1 games. I don't know if they plan to continue that logic with the PS3 vs PS2. I know that I never played any PS1 games on my PS2.

I for one hope, and suspect, that Xbox2 (which is still a LONGGGGGG way off) will not support Xbox titles. I'd expect the technology leap in CPU and Graphics to be significant enough that it would be impossible, short of including the Xbox CPU and Graphics chips in there in addition to the Xbox 2 architecture. And that would bump the cost of the machine up unnecessarily. I think its fairly safe to assume that XB2 will not be backwards compatible with XB1. Though why you care right now???? Its several years away, and there's plenty in the world of XB to be going on with right now.
