HD Ready means it must be able to accept a 720p (Progressive) input, & have a Component in connection & one that will 'do' HDCP' (Encryption) which is either HDMI or DVI, but as Zing rightly says-just because it is badged HD ready doesn't mean it can accept all HD inputs.
A lot of HD Ready sets will accept a 1080i (Interlaced) signal, but not many (a handful) will accept a full 1080p (Progressive) input (which doesn't really matter as very little is actually broadcast in 1080p!)
