Not quite, I disagree. The "up to" statement is used for ADSL because of line length and when someone does the adsl checker they get an estimated max speed, for instance my postcode gives me adsl upto 4.5mbps. So in that case BT arent saying I will get up to 8mbit.

Sweden and other countries manage to sell 10mbit+ connections that dont see contention any time of the day and some of their services are uncapped, so I dont want to hear ntl cannot do it, do you think they could do it if their network was upgraded in line with the bandwidth they sold? do you think their network capacity is 10 times higher then when 1mbit was the max tier? do you think they have 10 times the # of proxy servers? no.

Other ways they could have done it is proper peak time capping but it seems they could never get their capping equipment working correctly so was unable to do this.

Other EU countries are sending TV over ADSL2 lines, presumably for this to work they cant allow contention to poke its nose else the tv would have problems.

Broadband is a joke in the UK (not just ntl) and the only providers I see that are anything like what broadband should be is 2 or 3 LLU providers, even with them I would like them to use boosters so adsl works faster at longer distances.
