My quote about 'life being a bitch' was in refference to the way NTL advertise thier services, it had NOTHING to do with the 10mb service.

Because I'd like to think that maybe, just maybe, NTL would prefer to offer a service approaching something remotely like they advertise rather than see people like me jumping ship.
But it's like my gas and electricity provider, always someone around the corner that seems better or cheaper, but may not be the be all and end all. Until I do some research and find out who else may be a better alternative for me, I'll stick this out for now so that I am not bitten on the ass again, like NTL have done with me. I have made that mistake once by trusting NTL would give me what they promise.
And I wasn't aiming my frustrations at you per se. But you seem determined to defend NTL, when clearly there is a problem with their service. Even if it does affect what might be a minority, but that minority are getting shockingly bad service in some cases.
I can only assume you are one of the lucky ones getting something close to what you pay for. Otherwise your loyalty toward them is staggering - or do you simply have money to throw away on a poor service?
I have a few friends who have signed up for the Carphone Warehouse deal with free broadband. Some here may scoff at that and as some have said in the past, "ADSL doens't offer the speeds that cable can" - "good luck with getting 10 meg on ADSL" etc etc. But if I even get 5 meg from an ADSL company, it's far better than NTL ever have been able to provide me with.
But as I say, before I sign up for 12 months with someone, I will damn well make sure I get all the facts laid out in front of me before blindly signing up with a company based solely on whatever the speeds may or may not be "up to".
Meantime, I don't see what's wrong with coming here and hopefully expressing problems with a service that might help even one person out there from signing on the dotted line with this company, only to maybe, be hugely disappointed.
If everybody had your attitude, then companies delivering a naff service would never get their collective fingers out and improve anything. Whether you like it or not, when a company sells its customers short, then people need to speak up and make themselves heard. And of course I have spoken to NTL. I mentioned that already, and I got the usual "you must have a virus/running P2P software/router/the cat is sat too near the p.c/global warming/your hair is too long/next doors microwave oven is affecting your speeds, it's anything BUT us to blame" excuse.
