Re: Radio stream not working can anyone help

just tried a ping test(i think thats the term, please forgive my ignorance) for the route from me to that address and have attached a pic of the result
i should also add that i did speak to ntl tech support a couple of weeks back and spoke to an asian guy who i'm afraid i could barely understand. his 'advice' was to download firefox and tell him my dowload speed whilst it was downloading (after he directed me to a speed testing site that was no longer in use). this came out at quite a healthy speed and he indicated that it was my problem ,but he would kindly send me a a very informative e-mail to help with speed problems >>>>>
Hi

Further to our conversation earlier; here is the information I promised you:

There are many issues that can affect broadband speed.

This tutorial will help you to understand what speed you can expect and what steps you can take to resolve speed related problems including:
  • rebooting your broadband device
  • turning off file sharing programs
  • connecting your PC directly to your ntl Broadband device
  • deleting temporary Internet files
  • increasing system resources
Step 1

ntl Broadband is currently available in four service levels. Download and upload speeds can be measured in Kilobits per second (Kbps) or more commonly Kilobytes per second (KB/s).

Package
Download
Speed
Upload
Speed
ntl 512k Broadband
Up to 512Kbps or 64KB/s
Up to 64Kbps or 8KB/s
ntl 1Mb Broadband
Up to 1024Kbps or 128KB/s
Up to 100Kbps or 12.5KB/s
ntl 2Mb Broadband
Up to 2048 Kbps or 256KB/s
Up to 200Kbps or 25 KB/s
ntl 10Mb Broadband
Up to 10240Kbps or 1280 KB/s
Up to 512Kbps or 64 KB/s

Step 2

You can test your speed by downloading a file from a UK based site and check the transfer rate shown. Alternatively, various speed tests are widely available either from tests embedded in the website, or by using specifically downloadable tests designed for UK broadband connections, however please note that ntl does not endorse or offer technical support on any speed test sites or applications.

If your speed is lower than expected, read the following sections and re-check your speed if required.

Remember, your download speed is dependent on the speed the other computer or server that you are accessing can upload the data to your computer. Online Speed tests can also be misleading and it's important to repeat the test several times to get an accurate measurement.

The first step when experiencing speed issues should be to reboot your broadband device by powering it off at the mains, wait approximately 30 seconds then power it back on again. Once the lights have stabilised the modem has been reset. This can often resolve many speed related problems.

Step 3

Turn off file sharing programs (also known as Peer to Peer software or P2P) such as Kazaa, iMesh, eMule etc.

This type of software can consume considerable amounts of your connection speed. Therefore, you will not be able to achieve an accurate measurement of your download/upload speed whilst it is running.

If you are experiencing slow downloads using this type of software it could be related to the person you are downloading from having a slower connection than you.

Step 4

If you are running a home network, connect your broadband device directly to one computer and recheck your speed to rule out local network problems.

Step 5

By removing old files and increasing disk space you can often improve browsing speed by clearing your temporary Internet files. To do this from Internet Explorer, click on Tools then Internet Options, then click Delete files.

Step 6

Available system resources can affect connection speeds. This is especially significant when using Universal Serial Bus (USB) as your broadband connection method.

You may also have several USB devices (such as a mouse or keyboard), or unnecessary programs in the start up folder (programs that run automatically when your PC is started) which decrease the amount of system resources available.
Increasing system resources or changing to an Ethernet connection (NIC) will resolve this problem.
Step 7
