Edit the Speedtouch does not 'dial in' , adsl uses the dial up networking protocol to fake a connection. It dials nothing mearly opens a connection with the exchange.

What happens with a adsl modem router is that the modem does the 'dial in bit' as soon as it is fired up the computer/s then use ethernet protocal to share the connection either wired or wireless.

Thanks for that . Would that connect to the Speedtouch, or replace it?

So does all that mean I can use any ADSL modem/router in place of the Speedtouch and a USB cable?
