10BaseT is Half Duplex which means that you can only do sending/receiving at alternate times and not at the same time. The protocols involve require that an Acknowledgement is sent for every packet received so 10BaseT will never run at a full 10MBit the average you would see is around 6, maybe more, maybe less!
