Re: Im going for it - Monster O/C on Pentium D 805

One thing to watch here peeps - i've been investigating this in a little more detail and have actually cancelled my komplett order for the time being.

The bundle mentioned above comes with

TwinMOS DDR2 PC4300 1024MB Dual Pack KIT w/two matched DDR2 PC4300 512MB CL4

Now this is DDR 2 PC4300 memory but flicking through the toms hardware link we see the following table:-

Pentium D 805 with 20x Multiplier
FSB clock CPU clock
133 MHz (Default rate) 2.66 GHz
140 MHz 2.80 GHz
150 MHz 3.00 GHz
160 MHz 3.20 GHz
166 MHz 3.33 GHz
170 MHz 3.40 GHz
180 MHz 3.60 GHz
190 MHz 3.80 GHz
200 MHz 4.00 GHz
205 MHz 4.10 GHz
210 MHz (THG clock) 4.20 GHz
215 MHz (Maximum boot clock) 4.30 GHz

Which means that to reach 3.8 Ghz we need a FSB speed of 190Mhz - However the FSB speed also relates to the Memory speed also. Depending on how we can set the multiplier on the motherboard will depend on how far we can push the memory as well.

So the motherboards memort multiplier needs to be able to be changed DOWN from 4 (normal multiplier) otherwise my 4300 Memory is going to need a serious reconcideration.

190 * 4 = 7600 Memory.... (if i understand this correctly)

It needs to be 2 or 2.5 if we are going to keep it stable (3800 - 4750).

FSB (MHz) Multiplier Bandwidth
133 - 148 3.00 DDR2-400 up to 444
133 - 148 4.00 DDR2-533 up to 592
149 - 266 2.00 DDR2-298 up to 533
149 - 266 2.66 DDR2-396 up to 710
149 - 266 3.00 DDR2-447 up to 800
149 - 266 3.33 DDR2-496 up to 888
149 - 266 4.00 DDR2-596 up to 1066

I need to check the motherboards manuals in more details before i go ahead with this to see what support it has for the memory multipliers.

Edit: checked the manual - but it doesent go into much detail about the BIOS memory timings available.

Need to look elsewhere.
